clouds of dollar bills split up the wind
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
she picks up a pair of linen/cotton capris
from the floor. slides them on. there are smokes
in the car. nudity is arrestable.
outside the sky's littered with clouds
and jets stirring up the ions. later there will be thunder
matching the bright silver landings,
touchdown of water on the asphalt plains.

she's moving in 4 days. the floor is littered
with everything she wants to bring. broken down
boxes line the walls. if it were her sister
everything would already be packed and labled.
she wonders what sister would say to the reporter
from cnn who wants to know if we're on the brink.
she wonders if sister ever watches the news.

at school where she registers her son
the clerks move in teflon cotton.
authority marches loudly thru the forms
and singles her out. business in a green jacket
steps in front of her, slips the smell of money
into the proffered folder. she begins to notice

she picked a bad neighborhood. the disney corners,
the iron picket fences, the huge suvs come at her
vampires with a virus called conviction. it's a trap.
she glances around languidly, reads the notices on the wall.
points out the pink laminated sign above the heart attack
machine. notice? she nudges. defibrillator is missing an i .

he says he's goin to baton rouge
to watch lousiana sink.
she says a good sink always helps
resell your home. it doesn't make

a lot of sense, sinks are replacable.
he visits the aboveground graves
on his way thru lake ponchitrain burbs-
new orleans is a cancer patient whose

ass he won't wipe anymore. he knows
the plantation uncle tom's buried on.
thing about that nigger, he never
broke and harriet wanted to give props

to jesus but jay knows it was spite.
jay's got a roadside daisy he plucked
at the edge of the seven eleven parking lot
turning off to nowhere. he rubs his

sweaty face with his do-rag then guns
his engine. the daisy sits all yellow
in the muck above the good slave's
final home. then it winks at jay, and sinks.
